- Unzip the extension download.
- Open your browser’s Extensions page and enable Developer mode for this test installation.
- Choose Load unpacked and select the extracted extension folder.
- Open the extension settings and enter your app activation code.
Safari requires a separately signed Safari extension and is not included in this testing release. This download is not a browser-store listing.
Your local companion
Connect your own WhatsApp through its Linked Devices QR procedure.
- Install Node.js 24+ if needed.
- Unzip the companion. Run Start Companion.command.
- Open local phone setup, start WhatsApp and scan the QR.
- Generate a local pairing code and enter it in your extension’s settings.
Keep the companion running while fetching and importing new messages. It cannot send WhatsApp messages. Your message history and session keys stay on this computer.

Then get back to your day.
Open a contact in Contatta and choose Import WhatsApp. Confirm the right conversation, select the new messages and import them. The next run skips messages already confirmed in the import ledger.

Yes: the extension fills Contatta’s existing Note form and saves each selected message as a Note marked WhatsApp. The original timestamp and sender are included in its text. Contatta’s native timeline date is the date of import.
What about profile pictures?
The add-on fetches the selected conversation’s available WhatsApp photo and loads it into Contatta’s Edit Avatar form. Review the photo and click Contatta’s Save button. Photos blocked by WhatsApp privacy settings cannot be imported.
Does this work without Contatta?
The real message-import controls activate only on a signed-in Contatta contact page. This website handles your add-on account and downloads, not a standalone WhatsApp inbox. A paid Contatta subscription cannot be verified without Contatta’s cooperation.
What is stored on AWS?
Your add-on account, testing access and browser activation. WhatsApp session keys and message history stay in the local companion. Messages you explicitly import are sent to Contatta through its own interface.
What should testers know?
This independent beta uses the unofficial Baileys linked-device library. WhatsApp controls available historical messages. Browser-interface changes can interrupt importing; the importer stops instead of blindly retrying an uncertain save. Keep the companion’s data folder to preserve duplicate protection.
